Fortune PaiGow Poker

In PaiGow Poker players make two poker hands out of 7 cards dealt (one of 5 cards and one of 2 cards). Both player hands must beat the two dealer hands to win.

Rules of the game: PaiGow is played with a standard 52 card deck and one Joker. The Joker may be used as any card necessary to complete a straight or flush. In any other situation, the Joker must be played as an Ace. After placing a wager in the designated area, the players and the dealer each receive a 7 card hand. The order of delivery for the hands is determined by an electronic number generator or a set of three dice. Players must assess their cards and create a five-card poker hand and a two-card hand. The five-card hand must have a higher poker ranking than the two-card hand. The hands are placed face-down in the areas designated “High” and “Low”. The dealer then exposes the house hand and sets it in a predetermined way. This is called the “House Way” and varies slightly between casinos. Wizards Casino house ways are shown below.

Wizards Casino House Ways

NO PAIR Play the second and third highest cards in the low hand.
TWO PAIR When deciding whether to split pairs first rank them as follows
2's through 6's = LOW PAIRS
7's through 10's = MEDIUM PAIRS
Jacks through Aces = HIGH PAIR
If the higher pair is a low pair, split the pairs unless a King or Ace may be played in the Low hand.
If the higher pair is a medium pair, split the pairs unless an Ace may be played in the Low hand.
Always split a high pair with any other pair.
THREE PAIR Play the highest pair in the low hand.
THREE OF A KIND Play the three of a kind in the high hand unless it is three Aces. In this case, play a pair of Aces in the High hand and an Ace and the next highest card in the Low hand. With two sets of three of a kind, play a pair from the higher ranked group in the Low hand.
STRAIGHT and/or FLUSH Play the combination that allows the best low hand. If a hand contains a Straight or Flush and two pairs, use the two pair rule unless the Straight/Flush may be played in the High Hand with a Pair in the Low hand.
FULL HOUSE Play the pair in the Low hand unless the pair is deuces and a combination of Ace/King may be played in the Low hand.
FOUR OF A KIND If 2's through 6's, always play the four of a kind in the High hand. Always play it in the high hand if a pair may be played in the Low hand. Treat any other four of a kind as two pair and use the two pair rule.
FIVE ACES Play a pair of Aces in the Low hand unless a pair of Kings may be played in the Low hand.

After the house hands have been set, they are compared to each of the player's hands. If the player's two hands beat the dealer's two hands, the player wins. If one hand wins and one loses it is a push. Exact copy hands are won by the house (or the Banker if a player is banking the game as explained below).

Player Banker: Players are offered the opportunity to bank the PaiGow game. A player wishing to bank the game must have enough money on the table to cover the other players bets. The Player/Banker gets the advantage of winning on exact copy hands but must pay a 5% commission on all winnings.

Fortune PaiGow: Fortune PaiGow is played exactly the same as standard PaiGow with an added bonus spot. Players do not have to participate in the Fortune Bonus, however you must participate in the regular game in order to participate in the Fortune Bonus feature. Players can wager from $1 to $50 on the Fortune Bonus. Players may wager more on the Fortune Bonus than the regular PaiGow spot. If a player wagers $5 or more on the bonus, they qualify for the “Envy Bonus”. The dealer places a Lamer on top of the Fortune Bonus bet to designate a qualifying wager.

How the Fortune Payout works: After all of the players have their hands set and the dealer sets the house hand, the dealer will check each player's hand in order. After settling the PaiGow wager the dealer will determine the best 5 or 7 card hand from all 7 of the player's cards. If the hand is a straight or better the player is paid the amount shown in the table below. If the hand does not qualify for the Fortune Bonus the wager is lost and the dealer will collect it. If the player's hand is a four-of-a-kind or better it also qualifies for the “Envy Bonus”. Hands that qualify for this special bonus are left on the table and the dealer will move on to the next player. After all hands have been settled the dealer will settle any envy bonus payouts. If there are more than one envy bonus hand each one will be settled in turn.
